About The Conservation Efforts Database

The spatially explicit, web-based Conservation Efforts Database (CED) is capable of (1) allowing multiple-users to enter data from different locations, (2) uploading and storing documents, (3) linking conservation actions to one or more threats (one-to-many relationships), (4) reporting that would allow summaries of the conservation actions at multiple scales (e.g., management zones, populations, or priority areas for conservation), and (5) accounting for actions at multiple scales from small easements to statewide planning efforts.

The CED operates on four primary tenets:

  • Security: Partners determine access and permissions

  • Transparency: Part of the public record

  • Partner-driven: Features and functions developed collaboratively with partners

  • Science-based: Utilizes known responses to threats and/or conservation actions

The CED has developed mechanisms to transfer information from existing databases to the CED to reduce staff-time required to enter information. Further, the CED concept is applicable to a number of monitoring needs and the CED Team can develop species- or issue-specific ‘modules’, tailored for the stakeholders and end-users. Currently, the CED operates the Sagebrush Module, tracking the implementation of conservation actions in the sagebrush biome. The CED Team is also developing two modules to track the recovery of listed species: the Gunnison sage-grouse and Lahontan cutthroat trout.

    Interested in a Customized Version of CED?

    The CED is interested in working with you to capture and store your data on your terms. With proper funding, we can create a customized CED module that will allow you to track and store your data. We will work with you to create a customized layout and add fields that meet your organisaztion's needs. This would allow seamless integration with the USFWS CED when efforts are related to the sagebrush ecosystem. If the CED does not have the features or layout you are looking for, we encourage you to visit our sister database, the Land Treatment Digitial Library https://ltdl.wr.usgs.gov/ to determine if it better suites your needs. The LTDL has a more complex, treatment focused data entry system that can still be synced with the CED.
